KOKRAJHAR, May 9 - The two-day long Bardwi Shikla festival organised by the BTC administration concluded here recently at the BTC Secretariat field Bodofa Nwgwr, Kokrajhar amidst gaiety and fervour.

Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Asam Sahitya Sabha president Dr Paramananda Rajbongshi expressed his pleasure and thanked BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary for his initiative in organising the programme that marked the unity of all the communities of Assam across caste, creed and religion giving out a message of cultural bonding for the greater Assamese society.

At the same time, he also said that every community should come forward to strengthen their respective culture and language for the wider cultural unity of the people of Assam at large.

He further expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by Hagrama Mohilary in nipping in the bud a move to disturb unity among the people regarding land policy of the BTC administration. He also appealed to all organisations to demand from the government a recruitment policy in which at least 50 per cent of the questions are set in the mother tongue.

Attending the programme as an appointed guest, AASU adviser Dr Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharjya said that the time is ripe to strengthen the folk culture of our society. He also added that AASU has extended its support to BTC Accord and it will continue to do so.

Addressing the gathering, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary stated that one of the essential objectives of this kind of programme is to involve all sections of people in the BTAD and the rest of Assam and to bring about a coordination among all through cultural exchange. At the same time he once again reiterated that there is no separate land policy for the BTAD and that nobody should entertain any doubts on this issue.

He also said there is a section which is working overtime in destabilising peace and progress in BTAD and is engaged in doing things detrimental to the interest of social unity. He therefore appealed to the people not to get distracted and misunderstand the united efforts of the BTC administration but to extend hands for the overall development of the region. He also stressed that BTAD is within Assam and will remain in Assam forever.

It may be mentioned here that apart from the dignitaries of other autonomous councils in Assam, representatives from almost all student and other organisations attended this mega event organised by the BTC administration. Cultural troupes from different communities also showcased their traditional performances in the programme.
