Bangla Visa centre in Tripura to be upgraded

AGARTALA, Dec 7 - Bangladesh visa office in Tripura will be upgraded to the status of Assistant High Commission within this month.

�This Visa office will be upgraded as the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh this month itself and the Assistant High Commissioner-designate, Sakhawat Hussain, has arrived here from Bangladesh High Commission in Madrid,� First Secretary of the Visa office here, Md Monirujjaman today said.

Government of India had conveyed its concurrence to the upgradation of the Bangladesh visa office in Agartala in November 2014 last in response to a request made by Bangladesh.

The visa office was set up in 1973 considering Tripura�s contribution in the Liberation Movement for Bangladesh in 1971. The State has a 856-km long border with the neighbouring country. The visa office issues more than 100 visas to Indians of the Northeastern region for entry into Bangladesh every day. � PTI
