Back home Hima gets a hero�s welcome

JALUKBARI, Sept 7: India�s new track and field sensation Hima Das was bestowed a red carpet welcome by the Assam Government on her home coming at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport today.

She landed at 1 pm by a SpiceJet aircraft. The airport was decorated with a red carpet that resembled a running track. Also on the way to the airport, hoardings and banners were put on by the State Government welcoming the sprint sensation. The premises of the LGBI Airport wore a festive look as the locals, fans, members of students� bodies thronged the airport to welcome her.

She was received by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Finance and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, State BJP president Ranjit Kumar Dass and Assam DGP Kuladhar Saikia. The Chief Minister welcomed her with a gamosa. The airport was specially decorated to welcome the speedster who had clinched a gold and two silver medals at the recently concluded Asian Games in Jakarta.

On her way back from the airport she was given a grand welcome by people who were waiting to get a glimpse of the sprint sensation. She visited the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Kshetra in Jalukbari and paid homage to the icon.

From Jalukbari, she went to the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Sarusajai to offer her salute from where she started her glorious journey.
