GUWAHATI, Sept 25 - Assam thrashed Mizoram by 113 runs in their match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Tanush Academy Ground in Dehradun today.
Put in to bat, Assam put up a strong total of 324 runs for the loss of three wickets with Sarupam Purkayastha being the top scorer with a splendid knock of 163 not out off 150 deliveries. With this knock Sarupam became the highest scorer by an Assam batsman in a List A tournament. The previous record was of 154 by J Arun Kumar against Odisha in 2006-07 season. Skipper Sibsankar Roy contributed an unbeaten 79 runs off 53 balls while Gokul Sharma chipped in with 57 off 82 deliveries.
In reply, Mizoram could only manage 211 runs for the loss of six wickets in their stipulated 50 overs.
