Assam surgeon gets Dr BC Roy Award

GUWAHATI, Oct 27 - Prof Dr Subhash Khanna, a senior surgeon from Assam and the North East, has been conferred with the Dr BC Roy Award under the category of �Eminent Medical Teacher�, a press release stated.

The Medical Council of India had instituted the award in 1962. Dr Khanna, who studied in Gauhati Medical College, started his career in 1984 in the Department of Surgery at GMC and became a professor in 1999. He later took voluntary retirement and started his Swagat Endolaparoscopic Surgical Research Institute in 2000. Dr Khanna has over 130 publications. He also started an academy Swagat Academy of Medical Sciences, in which many surgeons have been trained. Dr Khanna is also the president of the Indian Association of Gastro Intestinal Endo Surgeons.
