Assam Association, Mumbai celebrates Bhogali Bihu

GUWAHATI, Jan 23 - The Assam Association, Mumbai celebrated Bhogali Bihu on January 20, at Assam Bhavan, Mumbai.

This year, a large number of Assamese people from greater Mumbai came together to showcase the rich Assamese culture, unity and brotherhood. The programme began on a spiritual note, followed by lighting of the lamp and a dance programme by children.

Manashri Dihingia, a well-known Satriya dancer, performed the Krishna Vandana and Chali Nach. A dance item titled �Namami Brahmaputra� by girls and choreographed by Manashri drew wide applause. Another dance by children and choreographed by Punam Sharma was also appreciated by one and all. The Bihu dance performance by �Panvel ladies� received a high round of applause from the audience. Master Sahil Ahmed, a budding keyboard player received tremendous applause from the packed audience. Ranjana Das sung songs composed by her father Jayga Bezbarua, a well-known musician and lyricist of Assam. His patriotic song O mor dexor maati has become popular because Abhas Joshi, a renowned singer regularly sings this Assamese song in his stage performances in various parts of the world.

The crowed enjoyed the melodious voice of Abhijeet Das and her daughter Naina Das in the evening. The star attraction of the evening was the performance of singer Raj Jyoti Konwar. A competition on laru and pitha was also organised in this connection.

The evening concluded with �Preeti Bhoj� having a rich variety of Assamese cuisine.

The highlight of the evening was the presence of more than 150 guests of Assam Bhawan, undergoing treatment, who had missed the important festival at home. They were served with delicious food sponsored by many generous people under a drive �Home Away Home� through different social media.
