Assam Academy of Mathematics holds meet

GUWAHATI, March 14 - The new executive committee of the Assam Academy of Mathematics held its maiden sitting at the Mathematics Department, Gauhati University, yesterday and adopted several important resolutions.

The meeting chaired by its president Dr Prabin Das was attended by a few past presidents and general secretaries, including founder president Dr Buddha Prasad Chetiya and founder general secretary Dr Tarakeswar Choudhury.

The onus of giving Ganit Bikash a facelift was put on Dr Chandrarekha Mahanta, while Dr Rita Choudhury, present vice president of the Academy, was selected as the convenor of its journal.

The resolutions that were adopted in the meeting included exclusion of Class XII from the ambit of Olympiad, and putting Class X, XI and XII in the same bracket. Matheletics would now be held in a single category comprising only Class IX and X, while extension of Matheletics to undergraduate level in the near future was also considered.

The meeting also decided to form a new financial sub-committee and proposed to hold a residential mathematical orientation course at Chapar area.

A resolution was adopted for publication of a compilation of articles on Asomor Ganit Shikshar Itihaas to be edited by Dr BP Chetiya. A talent search committee was constituted with Dr Prabin Das as convenor.
