Arya Vidyapeeth College observes foundation day

GUWAHATI, July 31 � Arya Vidyapeeth College observed its 53rd foundation day on July 29.

On the occasion the college inaugurated the Department of Biotechnology, the Govt of India-sponsored Institutional Biotech Hub. Additional Director General of Police Kuladhar Saikia inaugurated the hub and expressed the hope that the Centre would cater to the long-standing need of the student and teacher communities of the region in fulfilling the dreams of pursuing career and research in biotechnology.

Dr Jain Sarmah, coordinator of the hub informed that the hub would work for the capacity building of school, college and university students as well as the teachers on Biotechnology.

Later Saikia inaugurated the language laboratory of the college. The University Grants Commission has sanctioned the grant for its establishment through its Center for Potential with Excellence scheme. It is worth mentioning that recently UGC had selected the college as a Center for Potential with Excellence. Saikia stressed that the laboratory should be maximally used by the students to develop their language skills.

Dr Ajit Chandra Talukdar and Kalapana Pathak, principal and vice principal of the college respectively also spoke in the inaugural ceremony.

In the open session ADGP Saikia, former registrar of Gauhati University and retired faculty of the college Dinesh Chandra Baroowa, Dr Nilima Goswami respectively addressed the teachers, students and research scholars of the college and expressed the hope that the college will impart quality education to the students in the years to come. Sangita Kakoty anchored the programme and Dr Satyendra Nath Barman offered the vote of thanks in the open session. This was stated in a press release.
