ITANAGAR, Oct 7 - The members of Arunachal Pradesh press fraternity on Sunday staged a sit-in dharna at Arunachal Press Club in protest against the arbitrary cancellation of registration of Tripura-based Bangla daily Desher Katha by Registrar of Newspapers for India (RNI).

Desher Katha members had earlier claimed that since the day the BJP Government came to power in Tripura, constant efforts were being made to muzzle the daily which run by Communist Party of India (M).

The sit-in dharna was participated by members of Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists, Arunachal Electronic Media Association, and Arunachal Press Club.

Denouncing the Tripura development, APUWJ president Amar Sangno said that cancellation of RNI registration of the daily is nothing but a political vendetta of BJP Government in Tripura and attempt to weaken free press.

The APUWJ president also demanded the RNI to immediately revoke the registration cancellation order and restore democratic spirit in the BJP-run State.
