Arunachal Guv, CM greet people on Solung fest

ITANAGAR, Aug 31 - Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra (retd) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have extended greetings to the people of the State on the occasion of Solung, one of the major festivals of the Adi community.

In his message, the Governor said: �The Solung festival showcases the socio-cultural and religious life of our Adi brethren. From time immemorial, Solung has been celebrated with traditional gaiety and enthusiasm in our State. Primarily, it is to appease the deities for a bumper harvest of crops, abundance of livestock, peace, prosperity and well being of mankind as a whole.�

The Governor stated that the keen and complete participation of Adi people in the festival under the guidance of their elders, has kept this ancient tribal tradition alive. This has also helped the youth to understand and appreciate the sacraments of the festival, which stands for a harmonious relationship between man and nature, he stressed.

�On this joyous occasion, I join my Adi brothers and sisters, in offering prayers to the Almighty Donyi Polo, Kine-Naane, Doying-Bote and Dadii-Bote to shower on all of us, their blessings for peace, harmony and prosperity,� the Governor said.

Meanwhile, greeting the Adi community on the occasion, Chief Minister Pema Khandu lauded the community�s spirit to maintain and preserve their rich cultural heritage. He also offered his prayers to Doying-Bote and Kine-Nane for a good season and a bumper harvest.

Solung got off to a festive start with cultural shows, dance, drama, folklore and anecdotes based on tribal myths and mythology at Gumin Kiin, Aalo, in West Siang district on Friday.
