ITANAGAR, Sept 5 - Altogether 30 teachers � 15 from elementary level and 15 from secondary level schools � from across Arunachal Pradesh were honoured with State Awards in recognition of their dedicated services and contributions to the society on the occasion of Teacher�s Day celebrations here today.
Parliamentary Secretary for Education, Bamang Felix, who gave away the State Awards comprising cash, a shawl and a certificate each to 27 teachers (three could not make it because of monsoon related woes), paid tributes to the teaching fraternity on the occasion.
Describing teachers as �unsung heroes� who always remain behind the screen for one�s success, Felix called upon them not to confine their teachings within the four-walls of the classroom but to spread their knowledge to the entire society, State, country and the world.
He said, �Teachers are the most powerful human beings on this Earth. Societal transformation is possibly only because of teachers and they can lead the society towards prosperity.�
Stating that teachers in Arunachal were highest paid in the country, Felix, however, pointed that their �performance was not upto the mark� and made a fervent appeal to them to help the government change the prevailing state-of-affairs and make the society a better place to live in.
Citing that Education department had adopted a �zero tolerance� policy to transform the education system, he said, the government was looking forward to creating a more conducive atmosphere for both teacher and taught.
Paying his tributes to Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, Education Secretary Marnya Ete, in his address, said, �The footprints and impressions a teacher leaves, never fades, rather leads the nation towards lasting progress through young children.�
School children from Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Chimpu, Vivekananda Central School, Vivek Vihar and Govt Higher Secondary School, Arunodaya (Itanagar) gave some soulful renditions marking the occasion.
