Arunachal capital battling natures wrath

ITANAGAR, July 25 - The hilly State of Arunachal Pradesh continues to face natures wrath with the second spell of monsoon bringing more woes for Itanagarians!

Couple of days after the left-out portion of culvert at Papu Nallah along NH-415 (previously NH-52A) had collapsed disrupting the direct road link between the twin capital cities of Itanagar and Naharlagun, the main road suffered yet another major damage following washing away of a portion of the highway today.

The task of PWD for providing good roads has apparently become quite tricky with the rain Gods continuing to play spoilsport.

The district administration had ordered to restrict traffic movement along NH-415 after its collapse at Papu Nallah on July 22, allowing just light motor vehicles to travel from Itanagar to Naharlagun one-way down the highway, and diverting all kinds of vehicles coming from Naharlagun to Itanagar via Jully road.

PWD Minister Gojen Gadi today held a meeting at his bungalow here to review the prevailing road communication scenario with the engineers. He has directed the engineers to launch a bailey bridge at Papu Nallah point tomorrow. I have directed PWD (Highway) division to work on war footing to complete the Bailey bridge within one week, he informed.

State Governor JP Rajkhowa, while chairing a high-level meeting to review States road communication at Raj Bhawan here on Thursday, had blamed the bad roads for the States inability to fully harness its potential and exhorted the construction agencies to build quality and durable roads.
