Army officer killed in Sikkim avalanche laid to rest

IMPHAL, May 16 - The mortal remains of Lt Colonel Robert TA Kuba, who lost his life along with a soldier when his patrolling party was hit by an avalanche in North Sikkim on May 14, was laid to rest with full military honours at his native Maram Centre village in Manipur today.

The funeral service held at Maram Centre, 80 km north of Imphal in Senapati district, was attended by only family members and a few others including an Army brigade commander in view of the lockdown restrictions.

Earlier, Lt Colonel Kuba�s mortal remains were taken in a chopper to the Assam Rifles camp at Maram Bazar from the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport here. The Army officer�s body had arrived in an IAF plane from Bagdogra, and was received with full military honours at the Imphal airport, family sources stated.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Tribal Affairs Minister N Kayisii, titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba, former Assembly Deputy Speaker K Raina, civil society organisations and others have condoled the sudden demise of the Army officer.
