SILCHAR, July 20 - A 46-year-old Assam Rifles jawan, SK Wagle, who came with influenza like illness (ILI) symptoms at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital, was found COVID-19 positive, but he collapsed within an hour, an official said. NHM district media expert Suman Choudhury said swab samples from 18 more jawans of Assam Rifles were tested through the rapid antigen process and seven were found to be positive, while reports of RTPCR tests are awaited.
ANN Service from Sonari adds: Sonari MLA Nabanita Handique and her PA Manash Roy were found positive. Earlier, her son Karanjyoti, his driver Kartick Bora and office assistant Jisu Paul were found positive on July 16. Joint Director of Health Services (Charaideo) Dr Nizora Devi said the total cases have increased to 128. Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday visited the Sonari Subdivisional civil hospital and took stock of the facilities.
Mangaldai Correspondent adds: Altogether, 46 new cases were reported till Sunday evening, while 51 people tested positive on Saturday. Among the new cases, president of the BJP-run Darrang Zila Parishad, two homeguard jawans serving at the Darrang SP�s office and nine members of two families, including five children from Prafulla Nagar, Mangaldai and Gopal Nagar, Kharupetia, tested positive. The number of positive cases in the district stands at 641. The district administration has demarcated 13 new locations as containment zones.
Kokrajhar Correspondent adds: Four police personnel deployed in the Kokrajhar Jail and one inmate tested positive on Monday, said Additional Deputy Commissioner Pranjal Das. All the infected persons have been admitted to the RNB Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar, and isolation wards have been made inside the jail. As many as 30 persons tested positive in Kokrajhar district since Sunday, which took the case count to 232.
Jagiroad Correspondent adds: Eight more positive cases including 11-year-old Kushi Shah of Baganbosti were detected in Jagiroad on Sunday. The others are Abu Jalim and Nanda Kishor Shah of Jagiroad, Chitta Ranjan Bordoloi of Nellie, Ripan Saha of Kahikuchi-based CRPF camp, Suman Devi, Hariram Shah and Kushi Shah of Baganbosti and Gyansingh Uzir of Kahikuchi, said district nodal officer Dr Arun Nath.
Biswanath Correspondent adds: As many as 18 people were found positive in Biswanath district on Sunday. Among them, 13 are policemen, including the driver and a bodyguard of Minister Ranjit Dutta. Hajizur Rahman, a truck driver of Darrang who was arrested on charges of illegal cattle supply, also tested positive. COVID-19 was also found in four people who returned after treatment in Guwahati.
Haflong Correspondent adds: In view of lifting of the lockdown and to discuss measures to prevent spread of COVID-19 in Dima Hasao, a meeting was held with NCHAC executive member in-charge of medical Samuel Changsan in the chair on Sunday. Executive Members Ngamrothang Hmar and Nandita Gorlosa, MAC Liton Chakraborty and DPB vice chairman Donphainon Thaosen were present. Doctors and officials from all Block Public Health Centres, superintendent and officials of Haflong Civil Hospital, officials of NHM along with NCHAC secretary TT Daulagupu and Joint Director Health Services Dr Dipali Barman participated in the meeting.
Dergaon Correspondent adds: The number of active cases increased to 237 in Golaghat district on Sunday, with two more cases. The cumulative positive cases increased to 933, while one person has died. DIPRO in-charge Papu Gogoi said 141 patients are at Golaghat Covid Hospital, 13 at Jorhat Medical College Hospital, 29 at Kohora Model Hospital Covid Care Centre, 34 at Golaghat GNM training Centre CCC and 20 in home isolation. A total of 255 inmates were in 16 quarantine centres.
Nalbari Correspondent adds: Three doctors � Dr Arun Barman, Dr Balendra Narayan Deka and Dr Bandana Deka � of Swahid Mukunda Kakati COVID hospital were among 17 people who tested positive. The other people are from Ghograpar, Chariya, Kathalbar, Kharjara, Gadira, Barbari, Guwakuchi, Karia, Burinagar, Budrukuchi, Babunbari. Sukla Barman, the wife of Dr Arun Barman, and their son Parigyan Barman also tested positive.
Udalguri Correspondent adds: Eight more persons were discharged from the Udalguri civil hospital, while five more positive patients were brought for treatment on Sunday. Among the eight discharged persons, five are women. With this, 271 persons have been discharged till date, while one death was recorded.
Tezpur Correspondent adds: With 19 new cases, the total cases in Sonitpur district has reached 548. The number of active cases is 132, and they are under treatment in various hospitals. As many as 415 have been discharged. The district administration has declared 20 new containment zones in the district.
A Correspondent adds from Nagaon: As many as 33 people tested positive on Sunday, taking the total cases in the district to 1,131. Four inmates of Nagaon Central Jail tested positive on Friday, and the jail authority has allegedly kept them in an isolated place inside the jail, instead of admitting them to hospital. Another prisoner who tested positive earlier was brought back to jail from Nagaon civil hospital before his recovery. Earlier, two prisoners including a woman, and a physician of the jail too tested positive.
Gauripur Correspondent adds: Eight positive cases were detected on Sunday evening at Gauripur, including Nilesh Ranjan Barman (52), headmaster of Pratapganj High School. He was sent to Moterjhar COVID Hospital, while two were sent to Dhubri Civil Hospital. Five members of a family were also found positive, and were sent to Guwahati. The total number of cases has gone up to 24 till filing of this report.
