Anundoram Borooah Award presented at Udalguri

UDALGURI, Feb 4 - A total of 1,006 HSLC candidates who secured first division from among 6,058 candidates passed in the last 2015 HSLC examination under Udalguri district were presented the prestigious Anundoram Borooah Award at the Deputy Commissioner�s parade ground. The award was instituted by the State Government. It carries a laptop and a citation each.

Addressing the students as the chief guest, Dr Luke Daimari, principal of Udalguri College, advised them to learn lessons of hard labour and perseverance from the great souls of the past to make their future more ideal and society oriented.

Nabin Chandra Boro, Inspector of Schools of Udalguri district, told the students to keep their tempo in a usual speed to acquire success in future life.

The meeting was chaired by Sadhana Hojai, Deputy Commissioner of Udalguri district, while it was anchored by Munin Sarmah, Nazir of Udalguri DC office.

The meeting was attended by Dimple Baruah, Assistant Commissioner of Schools, and host of school heads of the total 113 high and higher secondary schools of the district.

In Barpeta: The Anundoram Borooah Awards for the year 2015 in the form of laptops to the first division holders in the HSLC, High Madrassa and Sanskrit Tol examinations were presented here on Monday.

Barpeta Deputy Commissioner Ashwani Kumar inaugurated the award presentation ceremony by distributing ten laptops to ten toppers of the district in a function held at Barpeta Government Higher Secondary School.

Addressing the meeting held in the occasion, Ashwani Kumar congratulated the students on their performance and expressed the hope that they will surpass their present records in the days to come. He termed Anundoram Borooah, the first Assamese ICS, as one of the great educationists and visionaries, and requested the students to follow his footprints to excel in life.

The Deputy Commissioner opined that the government has provided computers to the meritorious students to acquaint themselves with the emerging information technology and the students should well utilise these gadgets for their own intellectual development.

Addressing the meeting as a distinguished guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ramendra Nath Sarma stated that computers and laptops are indispensable part of modern education and students should use them in proper manner. He requested the guardians to keep vigil on the use of the laptops awarded to their wards so that they are not misused by any means.

Veteran academician and writer Akshyay Kumar Mishra attending the function as an invited guest opined that the government has provided the laptops as an incentive of merit to the selected students and so, these should be used properly. At the same time, he requested the students not to be swayed by modern information technology but instead use it to develop their mind and heart equally. Terming Anundoram Borooah as a milestone of education, he requested the students to study his biography and follow his ideals.

The meeting, presided over by Ganesh Chandra Sarma, principal of Barpeta Government Higher Secondary School, was also addressed by Sohrab Ali, Inspector of Schools, Barpeta District Circle.

Altogether 3,740 students in the district, including 3,519 HSLC, 35 Senior Madrassa, 172 High Madrassa and 114 Sanskrit Toll students, have qualified for the Anundoram Borooah Awards for the 2015 securing 60 per cent or more marks in the respective examinations.
