Another forest protection personnel arrested

KAZIRANGA, Oct 8 - One more personnel named Shashi Doley from the 2nd Assam Forest Protection Force Battalion were arrested by the Kaziranga National Park authority yesterday on the basis of a statement made by a couple named Urukha Pegu and Kunkuni Pegu who had been earlier arrested by Bokakhat police for keeping a rhino horn at their home.

Later, Bokakhat police handed over the case to the Kaziranga forest department for carrying out further investigation.

Accordingly, the Kaziranga National Park authority registered a case, said Kaziranga DFO Ramesh Gogoi, adding that the couple had admitted that Doley had asked them to keep a bag in their home, in which a rhino horn was kept.

The couple also even admitted that Doley was planning to sell the rhino horn at the rate of Rs 3 lakh.

Meanwhile, an investigation is on, said the DFO.
