GUWAHATI, Sept 26 - Universal Peace Federation, India Chapter, International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace to commemorate the United Nations International Day of Peace & International Day of Non-violence, felicitated Governor of Assam Prof Jagdish Mukhi and Chancellor of Royal Global University (RGU) AK Pansari with �Ambassadors of Peace� awards at a ceremony held at RGU today.
Acknowledging the honour, Governor Mukhi said how every dispute can be sorted out with peace and how through non-violence one can actively break through the destructive circle of violence. He advised the students to be active ambassadors of peace and bring about change in society.
In his speech RGU Chancellor Pansari stated that peace is a great issue which concerns all today and every religious, racial and other problem that plagues society can be resolved with this weapon. He said that in the past India was invaded and colonised by the British, French, Portuguese and the Dutch, but Indians never did so to any country. �That is why Indians are a testimony of peace,� he added.
Guest of honour of the occasion, Dr Chung Sik Yong who is regional group chair UPF- Asia Pacific, in his heartwarming speech inspired the young students to apply the basic principle of �giving first�. He said the nature of true love and true leadership is to always give first and sacrifice for the sake of others. Dr Yong emphasised on the Sanskrit phrase �Vasudhaiva kutumbakam� which means �The world is one family�.
The event was also attended by Bhubaneshwar Kalita, Chairman International Association of Parliamentarians for Peace (IAPP) and Sub-regional Director of UPF-South Asia; Prof SP Singh, Vice Chancellor RGU; Santosh Paudel; Krishna Adhikari, secretary general of UPF India; Jihosuya Jena, president of YSP India and the International Peace Volunteers of Youth leadership Training.
RGU students performed a cultural extravaganza of traditional dances. Mesmerising performances were also staged by the Peace Volunteers of Youth Leadership Training International, said a press release.
