GUWAHATI, May 15 Mediapersons were not the only people who had to bear the brunt of security arrangements during the Prime Minister Manmohan Singhs visit to the State Legislative Assembly here today for filing his Rajya Sabha nomination papers.

While mediapersons were shouting slogans and holding dharna at the gates of the Assembly, a senior Minister in the State government also had to face the scrutiny of the elite Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel inside the Assembly.

According to a senior Assembly official, Social Welfare Minister Akon Bora was inside the chamber of GP Das, Assembly Principal Secretary, along with other ministers and Congress leaders. Das is also the Returning Officer for the Rajya Sabha polls from Assam and so the Prime Minister has handed over his nomination paper inside his chamber.

All of a sudden, a few SPG personnel entered the chamber and marched to where Bora was sitting and without any pleasantries asked him to leave the chamber. The SPG personnel said Boras name is not on the list of persons allowed into the chamber, said the official.

However, before Bora, at a loss for words, faced any problems, Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh stepped forward and intervened. Singhs intervention made the SPG personnel leave the spot without bothering Bora anymore, the official said.
