GUWAHATI, Nov 2 - The Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) on Monday made it clear that at no condition, it will accept the move of the State government to privatise the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL).

Assam Jatiya Parishad conveners Basanta Deka and Dr Krishna Gopal Bhattacharya in a statement said that the Assam governments support to privatise the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited was very unfortunate for the State.

The move of the Centre to privatise the power sector has already been opposed by the governments of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Rajasthan, Punjab, Telangana, Chandigarh, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, etc. But the Sarbananda Sonowal government has supported the move.

It is very unfortunate for the entire Assamese society because with implementation of the move, the general public will have to pay a huge amount of electricity bill, the statement said.

The Assam Jatiya Parishad in the statement further said that earlier the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government had also taken the same kind of initiative to privatise the power sector and now the Narendra Modi government was going to implement the same.
