GUWAHATI, June 16 - An executive council meeting of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) today decided to help the government and provincialised academic institutions to develop their own websites. Ready to bear the cost of developing such websites, the Council also earmarked a sum of Rs 45 lakh for the drive.
Nearly 700 Higher Secondary schools, Senior Secondary schools and provincialised junior colleges would be benefited through this move, which will connect them directly through the AHSEC�s official website.
The step is all the more important considering the COVID-19 induced situation and subsequent stress on continuing the academic activities through online mode to minimise academic losses.
Personal websites for all the institutions are also supposed to aid in the Council�s efforts to digitise academic and official activities of nearly 1,500 institutions affiliated to it.
The Council�s executive body meet, held for the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak, also endorsed a number of reforms undertaken by the academic body in the past one year.
The proposal of taking Alternative English out of the list of MIL subjects was endorsed today. Henceforth, Alternative English cannot be opted in lieu of MIL. The subject, however, would remain in the course curriculum as �Creative English� or �Functional English.�
In the same meet, the proposal for including 11 local languages in the MIL category was also endorsed.
Also, from the next academic session, Bihu would be introduced as an elective subject, as was announced by the Council earlier this year.
Regarding the use of the SEBA portal for Higher Secondary admissions, the Council sources informed that despite taking up the matter with the State government, no communication has been made by the government on this matter till date.
