ABSU suspends all agitation programme indefinitely

KOKRAJHAR, Feb 15 - New All Bodo Students� Union president Dipen Boro announced indefinite suspension of all agitational movement by the student body.

Addressing the 53rd foundation day function at Bodofa House, Bagansali here, Boro said the ABSU has decided to suspend all agitation programmes primarily to focus on issues like improvement in education, eradication of social menaces like drug abuse, human trafficking, and to work on strengthening peace and harmony.

Talking to media-persons, Boro said the ABSU is committed to carry out all existing action plans, such as Mission Quality Education and Bodofa Mission for Sustainable Change to empower all sections of the people to develop a self-sustaining society.

Regarding the peace accord signed on January 27 by the governments of India and Assam, ABSU, the four NDFB factions and UBPO, the ABSU president said that the accord has brought a way out for permanent peace in the entire Bodoland and State of Assam.

He appealed to the governments of India and Assam to implement all the clauses of the accord in letter and spirit to meet the hopes and aspirations of the Bodo people and others living in the Bodoland Territorial Region and Boro Kochari Welfare Council in the State of Assam.

Referring to the resolutions adopted in the special convention of the union held recently at Tamulpur, he once again urged the Government of India to immediately implement the clause 9.2 of the BTR accord, which promises rehabilitation of all members of the NDFB.

Boro also urged the governments of India and Assam to take immediate initiative to implement Clause 9.4 of the accord, and withdraw all heinous and non-heinous cases lodged against cadres of all NDFB factions. He also demanded bringing back all NDFB cadres and civilians from the custody of foreign countries and take initiative to withdraw the cases registered against them in those foreign lands.

The daylong programme started with the hoisting of the union flag by ABSU general secretary Lawrence Islary and was followed by floral tributes to the ABSU founder president Mugani Agdari Baneswar Basumatary and general secretary late Kanakeswar Narzary. Floral tribute was also paid to the Father of the Bodos Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma by Dipen Boro. The first martyr of the Bodoland Movement Sujit Narzary was also given special floral tribute by the leaders and volunteers of the student body.
