ABITA reaches out to flood victims

DIBRUGARH, July 27 - The Assam Branch Indian Tea Association (ABITA), Dibrugarh Circle on Friday engaged the medical officers and paramedical personnel of Greenwood, Singlijan, Nudwa, Nahortoli and Romai tea estates to carry out free health check-up camp for the flood victims of Thangaon and Itakhuli villages in Lezai Kalakhowa under Dibrugarh West Revenue Circle.

The Dibrugarh Police aptly cooperated with ABITA in engaging its personnel including medical officers and staff from the Multi-Discipline Police Hospital, Dibrugarh Police Reserve in organising the camp. Dr Munin Pathok and Dr Bandana Tirkey from Dibrugarh Police Hospital participated in the camp along with their paramedical team.

Some 350 villagers including women, children and the elderly benefited from the camp. Those who availed the free service were also given away medicines free of cost. Medicines for a variety of ailments like fever, gastroenteritis, skin disease, eye infection, worms, hypertension etc., were distributed. A substantial portion of medicines was supplied by the office of the Joint Director of Health Services, Dibrugarh. The organisers also distributed 100 bottles of phenyl and 1000 water purification tablets to the needy families.

The camp was specifically organised at Itakhoolie Dehingthan English High School. The local ASHA worker and ANM from Itakhuli Sub Centre were also present.

Madhurjya Barooah, Secretary Zone 1, ABITA and Sailen Goswami, Chairman, Dibrugarh Circle, ABITA expressed their gratitude to the district administration and the Superintendent of Police, Dibrugarh for lending their support to the camp. Barooah said that ABITA would organise another medical camp very soon.
