TURA, Feb 9 - In an early morning swoop, the South West Garo Hills (SWGH) police today rescued three traders from Assam who were abducted three days ago.
Acting on information about presence of the gang of miscreants involved in the kidnapping, police carried out the raid and rescued the trio. The abductors, however, managed to escape while the police were busy securing the hostages.
The trio identified as Masidul Islam (24), Bipul Miah (24) and Aptar Hussian (18) was apparently abducted on February 6.
They were rescued from near Taktaki village under Ampati police station in South West Garo Hills district.
The three victims were reportedly kidnapped by an armed group of miscreants when they were travelling to a weekly market in Garo Hills. All the three victims are vegetable vendors. They were abducted between Ampati and Salmanpara.
The kidnapping came to light after the families of the victims received ransom demands. A search and rescue operation was launched by the police immediately after they were informed about the abduction.
No money was exchanged before they were rescued and we are on the lookout for the abductors, said Superintendent of Police, SWGH, Rithuraj Ravi.
