AASU stages protest against price hike

TEZPUR, Oct 4 - The Tezpur unit of the All Assam Students� Union (AASU) today staged a protest against skyrocketing prices of petroleum products and the essential commodities.

Later, the AASU leaders criticised the BJP-led state government saying the Chief Minister has failed to fulfil his pre-election promises during the election csmpaign.

�The state government has failed to check rising prices of the essential commodities and the petroleum products that has affected the common man,� the AASU leaders alleged.

North Lakhimpur correspondent adds: The Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Students� Union today took out a protest rally in the district against rising prices of petroleum products and essential commodities in the state. The members of the students� body shouted slogans against the state government saying it has failed completely to contain the prices of petroleum products and the essential commodities. They also shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his alleged failure in this regard.

Later, the AASU leaders submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur. A similar protest was also registered by the AASU members at Dhakuwakhona.

Baihata Charali ANN Serice adds: The Kamrup district unit of AASU today staged a� dharna programme at Amingaon against price hike of essential commodities .

The AASU activists from different sub-committees gathered at Amingaon in front of the Deputy Commissioner , Kamrup and raised slogans against the State and the Central Governments for their alleged failure in containing the prices of essential commodities. Senior AASU leaders Prakash Das and Dharmeswar Das flayed the BJP-led government at the Centre.
