NALBARI, Aug 11 AASU adviser Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya today claimed that the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi himself has been patronising the secret killers in the State and that is why he has not been able to take any steps against them.
Talking to this correspondent exclusively at Nalbari, Bhattacharya said that the Tarun Gogoi-led government had constituted three commissioners so far to probe the secret killing issue but he has not taken any step on the issue.
When Tarun Gogoi was in the Opposition, he had assured the State people that he will take stern action against those involved in secret killing if his party voted to power, Bhattacharya said. He further said the Tarun Gogoi Government fears to take step as the then Hiteswar Saikia government first opened the account of secret killing with the killing of one Biswajit at Tezpur.
Referring to the crisis over the NRC update Bhattacharya said that if the State government can suspend the NRC update work following a rally at Barpeta, the government should continue update work as there were massive rallies at every district headquarters on August 10. He added AASU will soon stage a satya graha in Guwahati demanding political rights in the hands of indigenous people.
The student union has also decided to meet the Prime Minister in Delhi with the representatives from all ethnic communities, Bhattacharya added.
Bhattacharya was here to attend the tributes-paying ceremony to Dr Dharanidhar Das and his three family members who were killed by secret killer at Niz Zuluki village near Barama in 1998.
