71st Republic Day celebrated across state with patriotic fervour

GUWAHATI, Jan 27 - The 71st Republic Day was celebrated all over the state with patriotic fervour. Reports filed by our Staff Correspondent, Correspondents and ANN Service are as follows:

DIBRUGARH: A few hours after the Republic Day function at the Chowkidinghee ground here, State Minister for Commerce and Industry Chandra Mohan Patowary and AASU leader turned BJP leader Rituparna Baruah faced robust anti-BJP sloganeering from members of All Assam Students� Union (AASU).

As the State Cabinet Minister and other BJP leaders left the ground in a convoy from the exit gate, just opposite to the district AASU office, the members of the student body waved black flags and chanted anti-BJP and anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act slogans. The protesting AASU activists were restrained from coming out to the main street by the police.

Among others, Minister Patowary along with other BJP leaders attended the Republic Day function. Patowary unfurled the Tricolour, paid respected to the martyrs and later took salute from several contingents of police, armed and unarmed personnel, NCC cadets, scouts and guides and school children. The district administration also honoured several individuals in recognition of their contribution to literature, culture, sports and farming etc.

MANGALDAI: People of Darrang district along with the rest of the state observed the 71st edition of Republic Day amidst enthusiasm and gaiety.

A central function was organised by the district administration at the Kachari Maidan where Sum Ronghang, Cabinet Minister for Hills Area Development, Mines and Minerals as the chief guest hoisted the National Tricolour in the presence of both the MLAs of the ruling BJP in the district Gurujyoti Das and Binanda Kumar Saikia, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Dass, Superintendent of Police Amrit Kumar Bhuyan, other government officials and staff, distinguished guests, besides a sizeable section of democracy-loving people.

Ronghang, in his address, asserted that the present BJP-led State government is responsible for the safety and safeguard of the language and culture of the indigenous people for which the government is seriously contemplating to implement Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. �Jati, Mati aru Bheti is not only a slogan of our government, but a promise to the people,� the chief guest said.

KALAIGAON: The Republic Day was celebrated at Kalaigaon and Bhergaon in Udalguri district with patriotic fervour and gaiety.

At sub-divisional headquarter Bhergaon, ADC-cum-SDO (Civil) incharge Gokul Chandra Brahma unfurled the Tricolour at the SDO parade ground in the presence of nearly 3,000 people.

On the occasion, the Bhergaon administration felicitated Himani Nath of Riyas Academy,Naobandha village for winning the third prize in the all Assam science-based poster drawing competition held at the Regional Science Centre at Khanapara organised by ASTEC. The administration also felicitated journalist Rabi Ram Boro and farmer Prasanna Rabha.Three centenarian citizens were also felicitated.

MORIGAON: Along with rest of the nation, the 71st Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm.

Piyush Hazarika, Minister for Health and Urban Development formally hoisted the National Flag at the main function held at Tarun Ram Phukan playground organised by the district administration.

Addressing the gathering, Hazarika dwelt at length on various welfare schemes of the Assam government during the last four years.

UDALGURI: Along with rest of the nation, the 71st edition of Republic Day was celebrated in Udalguri district in a peaceful atmosphere with maximum participation of people from all walks of life.

The programme was centrally celebrated in the parade ground of Udalguri Deputy Commissioners� office premises where state Cabinet minister Rihon Daimari was the chief guest. Unfurling the Tricolour, Daimari elaborated on various developmental schemes undertaken by the state as well as the Union Government.

Dhubri: The 71st Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm throughout Dhubri district on Sunday.

Centrally the National Flag was hoisted by State Food and Civil Supplies Minister Phani Bhusan Choudhury in presence of Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri Anant Lal Gyani and SP Yuvraj at the Raja Prabhat Chandra Baruah playground. Choudhury, in his address, spoke about various achievements of the state government. He also gave a brief description of various ongoing schemes in the district.

TINSUKIA: The 71st Republic Day was celebrated here with pomp and gaiety. The Tricolour was unfurled by State Minister of Labour and Welfare Sanjay Kishan who also inspected the Guard of Honour and took the salute of the march-past, which was participated by the contingents of police, NCC and school children in the parade ground at the ITI field Boroguri here.

The Minister, in his speech, stated that the present state government led by the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was making all out efforts for the overall development of the state with the motto of �Sab Ka Saath Sab ka Vikash�.

GAURIPUR: The 71st Republic Day was celebrated at Golokganj with a day-long programme. In the morning, Chayanika Thakuria, Circle Officer of Golokganj hoisted the National Flag on the playground of Jagamohan Vidyapith. She also took the salute of the march-past attended by police, paramilitary forces, NCC and the Scouts and Guides.

At Gauripur, the National Flag was hoisted by Jhimli Dutta, chairman, Gauripur Town Committee in the Mahamaya playground and at Chapar Nabajit Pathak, Circle Officer hoisted the Tricolour in the public field amidst a large number of youths and senior citizens of the locality.

DOOMDOOMA: The 71st Republic Day was also celebrated at Doomdooma. The main function was held at Doomdooma Town Field where the Circle Officer of Doomdooma Revenue Circle, Pankaj Nagbonshi hoisted the Tricolour.

Lions Club of Doomdooma Tea City felicitated veteran sports person Late Jadav Sharma posthumously for his contributions towards the field of sports.

Republic Day was also celebrated at Doomdooma Press Club where the president of the club Arjun Baruah unfurled the National Flag in presence of the club members. At Doomdooma College, Principal Dr Prakashjyoti Borthakur hoisted the Tricolour in the presence of teachers and students.

Republic Day was also celebrated at Sadiya where the Sadiya sub-divisional administration organised the main function at Chapakhowa Public Playground. SDO (Civil), Sadiya, Biswajit Phukan unfurled the National Flag and took the salute of the march-past. A colourful cultural programme was also organised on the occasion.

KOKRAJHAR: Along with rest of the nation, the 71st Republic Day was also celebrated here with a day-long colourful programme.

The Chief of BTC Hagrama Mohilary unfurled the Tricolour at Govt HS & MP School playground amidst a huge gathering.

Addressing the gathering, he hoped that the much-awaited new Bodo Accord with all factions of NDFB is going to eradicate gun culture in the Bodo society, which is responsible for derailment of the development process in Bodoland area. Mohilary also appealed to all, irrespective of cast and creed, to remain united for the greater cause of peace and development of this region.

Meanwhile, NTPC Bongaigaon Thermal Power Project (Salakati), Kokrajhar also celebrated the 71st Republic Day in a befitting manner.

Rakesh Kumar, Group General Manager, NTPC Bongaigaon unfurled the National Flag and addressed the gathering. In his speech, Kumar spoke about the significance of the occasion and NTPC�s role in the nation building process. This was followed by a colourful cultural programme to mark the occasion.

The highlight was the tableau presentation by Bal Bhawan, EWA and O&M department. The HoP (Head of Project) Merit Award was also given to employees who excelled in their work followed by prize distribution for various competitions and events.

Majuli: Majuli Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi unfurled the National Flag at the Kachari Maidan at Garamur, the district headquarters of the Brahmaputra island.

Kairi also took the salute from a march past by contingents of Assam Police, Home Guards, paramilitary forces and cadets of NCC and Scouts. Earlier, he was presented a guard of honour by the security forces.

Goalpara: Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and gaiety at the Junior Technical School playground at a function organised by the district administration.

The ceremony took place in the presence of the chief guest, i.e., Cooperation , Law and Justice Minister Sidhartha Bhattacharya, among several other dignitaries and a huge crowd.

The ceremony commenced with unfurling of the Tricolour by the chief guest Sidhartha Bhattacharya, who then addressed the public and highlighted the achievements and developmental works taken up in aspirational district Goalpara by the government.

Amongst the performing contingents, District Platoon Goalpara, Sainik School Goalpara (arms group) and Sainik School Goalpara (foot drill) were adjusted as the best three in the uniformed category while Markazdarul Yatoma, Goalpara, Bright Future Academy (boys), Helapakhri Tilapara ME School, Golapara Vidyapith High School and Karbala ME School were adjusted as the best five contingents in the non-uniformed category respectively.

Bongaigaon: Assam Social Welfare and Soil conservation Minister Pramila Rani Brahma unfurled the Tricolour in the Republic Day celebrations at Gandhi Maidan in Bongaigaon town organised by the district administration yesterday. The Minister, in her address, said that the state government was working out means to implement the Clause 6 of the Assam Accord to protect the rights of indigenous communities of the state and added that the government is going to frame a new land policy to provide land to landless citizens of the state.

Remarks on UTC: On the sidelines of the celebrations, Minister Brahma termed the protest, registered by some non-Bodo groups opposing UTC before the peace talks started with the NDFB (S) as an �ill omen� and called the protesters to hold talks with the government to clear their doubts if any on the issue.

Meanwhile in Chirang district, State Minister Chandan Brahma hoisted the Tricolour to mark the Republic Day celebrations at the parade ground at the district headquarters Kajalgaon. In his address, the Minister appealed to the non-tribal people of the BTAD not to believe in rumours about the formation of an UTC. The rights of the non-tribal people will not be affected by the peace talks between a militant group and the government, he assured.

DHEMAJI: With rest of the state, 71st Republic Day was celebrated in Dhemaji district with massive public participation.

Unfurling the national Tricolour at Kachari Maidan on the occasion, Dhemaji Deputy Commissioner Narshing Pawar urged the people to maintain peace and communal harmony for successful implementation of developmental projects.

At Jonai, Additional Deputy Commissioner (SDO i/c) Partha Pratim Bairagi hoisted the National Flag at Gandhi Maidan and addressed the gathering.

The Mising Autonomous Council (MAC), Gogamukh also celebrated the Republic Day with a day-long programme.

Hosting the National Flag at Gogamukh HSS playground, MAC Chairman Sunil Kumar Pegu urged the people to maintain unity among ethnic diversity.

Stating that Mising Council is implementing various infrastructural development schemes within its jurisdiction, Pegu appealed to people of all communities to participate in the developmental activities.

Tezpur: The 71st Republic Day was centrally celebrated at Church Field here on Sunday with much pomp and gaiety amidst tight security. State Minister for Water Resource, Science and Technology Keshab Mahanta after unfurling the national Tricolour, in his address, said that our Constitution is the soul of Indian democracy. �Our National Anthem, National Flag and the Constitution are symbols of our glorious existence and we must always keep it untouched,� the state Cabinet minister said adding that the knowledge and farsightedness of our Constitution makers are helping us to live without any fear, division and with liberty.

Prior to it, the minister received the Guard of Honour presented by Assam Police, Home Guard, students from different schools and colleges including Tezpur College, Darrang College NCC, Don Bosco High School, Tezpur Convent School etc.

In the programme, altogether 33 individuals making special contributions towards different fields were felicitated. Besides cultural programmes by different cultural troupes showcasing activities of different departments were also presented.

BARPETA: The 71st Republic Day was celebrated here with pomp and gaiety. Festivities and merrymaking was observed all along the district since morning. National Tricolours began to fly since morning in households, business offices, educational institutions, government and semi-government offices and offices of the political parties.

The district-level celebrations was organised in the playground of Barpeta Government Higher Secondary School where Deputy Commissioner Munindra Sarma unfurled the national Tricolour. Speaking on the occasion, Sarma narrated the development and welfare schemes undertaken by both Central and state governments. He also acknowledged the salutes of police, paramilitary forces, NCC and school children.

Multifarious cultural programmes were also organised where Satriya dance and traditional tribal dances were performed, among others.

Republic Day was also celebrated in every nook and corner of the district with a day-long programme. Competitions on sports, elocution and songs were organised. Symposium were organised with attendance of experts in different fields. In several places cultural programmes with patriotic songs as theme were organised.

TEOK: Republic Day was celebrated at Teok on Sunday. The central function was organised at Teok High School playground where the Tricolour was unfurled by Bhaskar Jyoti Rajbongshi, Circle Officer of Teok Revenue Circle.

Rajbongshi took the salute at a march past presented by schoolchildren and scouts at the celebration.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajbongshi shed light on the significance of the day and highlighted various programmes and schemes taken by the Government for the welfare of the citizens. He also distributed awards to different persons and organisations of Teok and its adjoining areas for their contribution to the development of the society at large.

In the afternoon, various competitions among the schoolstudents were held at the venue. Fresh fruits were distributed among the inpatients at the Teok First Referral Unit. Joy Prakash Mahanta, Circle Officer (attached), Rafique Uz Zaman, Chairman of Teok Municipal Board and Dipankar Gogoi, officer-in-charge of Teok Police Station were also present in the function, besides several other prominent personalities.

RAHA: Along with rest of the nation, the 71th Republic Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at Raha on Sunday. The programme was organized at Sudhakontha Dr Bhupen Hazarika Khetra where Revenue Circle officer of Raha Pallavi Kachary unfurled the national Tricolour. She took the salute of an impressive march-past by the NCC cadets of Raha HS School and Raha College.

Addressing the gathering, the Circle officer defined every citizen regardless of caste, language and religion as pillar of the Republic. She stressed on collective efforts in nation building and strengthening democratic values. She urged people to help the government to move ahead with a positive attitude.

School students of different schools of Raha presented cultural programmes on the occasion. The celebration was attended by local MLA Dimbeswar Das, ex-MLAs of Raha, Principals of different educational institutions, heads of government offices and a host of local people.
