ITANAGAR, March 1 - At least six shops and a Panchayat hall were reduced to ashes in a major fire that broke out at Gandhi Market, Mechukha, in Shi-Yomi district in the wee hours today.

The intensity of the fire that broke out at around 2.30 am was so massive that not a single item could be saved from the blazing shops, sources said.

Despite being one of the oldest subdivisional headquarters of the State, Mechukha is yet to get a fire station to mitigate fire-related incidents.
