48-hr strike called in Manipur

IMPHAL, March 12 � All Manipur Minority Students Union (AMMSU) has called a 48 hour general strike from midnight tonight in protest against Wednesday�s bomb blast in Imphal market.

The powerful bomb blast near a tea stall at the temporary women market shed in Imphal on Wednesday claimed three lives including a student, besides injuring 20 others.

The ongoing examinations and essential services have been exempted from the purview of the general strike, AMMSU leaders said at a press conference here. They demanded booking of the culprits involved in the blast within 48 hours.

Meanwhile, normal life in the State capital here was paralysed on Thursday as all market places remained closed to protest yesterday�s bomb blast.

Protesting the incident and demanding justice, women vendors of the three women market and men vendors of the temporary market shed staged a sit-in demonstration.

Manipur People�s Party, CPI and CPI(M) have also strongly condemned the incident.
