40 NE routes added to UDAN scheme

SILCHAR, Aug 29 - In an important development, the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has approved 40 new routes in Northeast under the fourth round of the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) � Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagarik (UDAN) 4.0.

As per a list released by the ministry, the new routes include Guwahati, Tezu, Rupsi, Aizwal, Silchar, Imphal, Shillong, Dimapur, Agartala, etc.

According to sources, though the routes have been approved by the Government, operations will begin once these routes are awarded to the airlines through a bidding process and the selected airlines will be allowed to operate under the scheme.

�After the first three rounds of bidding and extensive consultation with the stakeholders, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has approved the Regional Connectivity Scheme version 4.0,� an official order stated.
