GUWAHATI, July 29 - Four fresh flood-related deaths were reported in the State even as water levels have been found receding in all districts during the past 24 hours. Four persons lost their lives due to flood in the districts of Barpeta (2), Kokrajhar (1) and Dhubri (1) in the past 24 hours and with this the death toll during this year has shot up to 86.
In all, 12,24,685 people in 1,113 villages under 37 revenue circles of 16 districts of the State are still reeling under flood water, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said here this evening.
It said 1,113 villages in the districts of Dhemaji, Sonitpur, Darrang, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat and Cachar are still facing inundation caused by flood water.
Presently, 322 relief camps are operational in Barpeta, Chirang, Dhubri, Kamrup, Morigaon, Nagaon and Jorhat districts with 14,727 inmates, while 66 relief distribution centres are being run in Lakhimpur, Barpeta and Kamrup districts.
Meanwhile, the rivers Brahmaputra (at Neamatighat and Dhubri), Dhansiri South (at Numaligarh), Jia Bharali (at NT Road Crossing) and Kushiyara (at Karimganj) are flowing above danger level, the ASDMA said.
