24 fresh COVID-19 cases in Mizoram

AIZAWL, July 5 - Mizoram�s tally for the COVID-19 today climbed to 186 with 24 fresh cases detected during the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, three recovered patients were discharged today, two from Khawzawl district hospital, and one from Siaha district hospital.

The new cases included four Assam Rifles jawans, two BSF personnel and 10 National Disaster Response Force personnel, official source said.

With the new cases, Mizoram�s tally for novel coronavirus has climbed to 186 of which 53 are active cases and 133 are recovered cases.

Of the seven samples tested at Lunglei district civil hospital�s Truenat lab on Saturday, two cases were confirmed positive. They are BSF personnel posted in Lunglei, who recently returned from Kerala, aged 50 and 53, who showed symptoms. Government source said they were under BSF quarantine centre at Vanhne, about 4 kms from Lunglei town.

Later on Saturday, 465 samples were tested at Zoram Medial College, Aizawl and 22 were found to be positive for the virus. These included four Assam Rifles personnel posted at Zokhawsang headquarters near Aizawl and ten personnel of 1st Bn NDRF stationed at Lungverh, west of Aizawl. While Assam Rifles personnel have travel history to Delhi, Assam and Jharkhand, the NDRF personnel recently returned from Manipur, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Jharkhand. They are aged between 28 to 56.

Four civilians, including two women, from Siaha district, who returned from Delhi are also among the 24 fresh cases. They are aged 21 to 26, three of them symptomatic.

The remaining four, all males, are from Lawngtlai district, aged 18 to 28, who returned from Guwahati and asymptomatic. All the fresh COVID-19 patients were under institutional quarantine centre, the official source said.
