NAGAON, Sept 26 - Due to tremendous courage shown by two girls of the Nagaon Madhupur area, the Nagaon town police led by SI Gaurovjyoti Mahanta on Wednesday was able to arrest two scooty-borne snatchers from Madhupur Aamtolguri and seized the scooty, and recovered two mobile handsets, cash of Rs 2000 and other articles from the accused.
According to sources, the snatchers have been identified as Shahil Hussain of Madhupur Kadamtol and Moinul Haque of Madhya Shiyalmari village.
Sources told media persons here Wednesday afternoon that on Tuesday, when the two girls on their scooty were going back towards Madhupur through the Nagaon Police Reserve road from Ujjivan Bank, Haiborgaon, the accused on another scooty bearing registration numbers AS 12K 9868 intercepted the girls near Madhupur and snatched away their two mobile handsets, purses and other belongings and fled. Both girls subsequently chased the snatchers on their scooty up to Aamtol where the snatchers left their scooty on the roadside itself and immediately disappeared in the dark.
Meanwhile, on being informed by the girls, the town police led by SI Mahanta rushed to the spot and recovered the scooty from the spot and started investigation in order to trace the snatchers.
On Wednesday morning, the police were able to arrest both the snatchers from Shiyalmari area when they were planning to leave for Kerala after selling those items.
