GUWAHATI, April 23 (PTI) - Two persons were feared drowned and more than one lakh affected in three districts of Assam by the swollen Brahmaputra and its tributaries following incessant rainfall in catchment areas, officials said today.

The two were feared drowned in the Brahmaputra at Guijan in

Tinsukia district this morning, they said.

Situation worsened in Lakhimpur district, where an alert has

been sounded, with breaching of two embankments and flood water entering 50 villages and in neighbouring Dhemaji district water overtopping roads and bridges.

The Brahmaputra was also showing a rising trend in Tinsukia.

Flood waters have entered Dibru-Saikhowa National Park in the district, forcing animals to flee to the highlands inside the forest, officials said.

Lakhimpur administration is on a high alert following Brahmaputra's principal tributaries Singora, Subansiri, Ranganadi and Dikrong flowing above the danger level.

The State government has also directed all district Deputy Commissioners to be on a high alert and maintain strict vigil on vulnerable parts of embankments, besides taking measures to repair probable breaches.
