TURA, June 19 In another case of mob fury against criminal elements in Rongjeng, two extortionists were lynched in the village after being chased by dozens of villagers. The incident occurred at about 1 am today.

The two were lynched after villagers asked them to come to a spot to deliver the extortion money. Five of the suspects were waiting when the villagers managed to catch two from the group and lynched them.

Just three days ago, a surrendered cadre of GNLA was beaten up by an angry crowd along with his accomplice near Resubelpara in North Garo Hills, while in Adokgre another three extortionists were killed in a similar manner.

The two extortionists killed today have been identified as Senstar Marak (23) of Rongjeng and Lakingbat Marak (23).

According to locals, the two along with the group were notorious for demanding money from traders and wine shop owners at gun point.

One of the two killed, Senstar Marak had been threatening villagers and demanding money from them. He even introduced himself as the commander of AMEF outfit, said a local.

Confirming the incident, SP of EGH, Davis Marak said, Police was alerted about the lynching and when our team rushed to the spot they found the two bodies. By that time the mob had disappeared. We have registered a case.

Last year in July, five members of an extortion gang were lynched near Rongjeng village. It is suspected that many such killings of extortionists have gone unreported.
