1st Manipur Statehood Day Women�s Polo

IMPHAL, Jan 13 - The All Manipur Polo Association will be organising the 1st Manipur Statehood Day Women�s Polo Tournament in association with the Department of Tourism from January 17-21 at Mapal Kangjeibung Polo ground here. Four women�s team from Manipur along with team USPA (United States Polo Association) are taking part in the tournament.

This was announced by the Chief Secretary O Nabakishore in a press conference held at the Old secretariat conference hall this afternoon. He further said the tournament is being organised to observe Manipur�s historic Statehood Day that will feature USPA Women, the first International Women�s polo team to India.

He also said team USPA women will play in a mixed India/US exhibition game presented by the Rajasthan Polo Club and Rajasthan Tourism during the final day of the Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh Cup on January 24. Team India will feature two Manipuri women polo players.

President of All Manipur Polo Association Dr K Saratchandra said Huntre! Adventure is the management partner of the tournament. The tournament was organised to commemorate the 60th (Diamond) Anniversary of the All Manipur Polo Association which was established under the patronage of Maharaja Bodhachandra of Manipur in 1955. He said this tourney will be the first women�s polo tournament after 1993 in the State. Chingkheihunba Polo Club, Thoubal Polo Association Women�s team, Eastern Students Club Women�s team and Venture Fifteen Polo Club will also participate in the tournament. Tourism commissioner Mrs Nidhi, consultant to Manipur Government RK Nimai and Somi Roy of Huntre! Adventure also attended the day�s press conference and shared their view in organising the polo tournament.
