13 samples from Dhemaji test negative

DHEMAJI, April 2 - Observing the emerging threat of coronavirus (Covid-19) infection, the Health department of Demaji has readied 67 isolation beds in different hospitals, while the district administration has identified additional 350-bed quarantine facility in various hotels across the district.

Dhemaji Joint Director of Health Services, Dr R Kakati said there is no coronavirus cases detected in the district so far. The department forwarded swab samples of 13 complicated patients to ICMR laboratory at Dibrugarh, but all these reported negative, he informed.

Altogether 1,730 persons, who have returned to the district from abroad, have been sent for 14-day home quarantine, out of which a batch comprising 274 persons (said to be the first batch) has completed home-stay without showing any symptom of Covid-19 infection.

The department has stocked 264 Personal Protection Kits (PPK), 590 N-95 masks with 13,907 triple-layered masks to use in the coming days.

Altogether 139 doctors including 13 SDM&HOs, 28 senior medical officers, medical & health officer-I and others along with nurses, MPWs and health activists are working in the district to combat any eventuality caused by the dreaded virus. It also has taken measures for smooth delivery of ration and essential items during lockdown period. It has notified fair price agents selected for supplying items, while LPG distributors are directed to ensure home delivery of the refilled cylinders.

There is no recent case of violation of lockdown rules in the district after the police forces manhandled many violators during the beginning days.

Meanwhile, the district administration issued a number of executive orders urging the people to obey lockdown rules besides maintaining social distancing to get rid of Covid-19 infection.

The administration is carrying out spraying of disinfectants at the offices and market places at Dhemaji, Gogamukh, Silapathar and Jonai through SDRF jawans. Three teams of fire-fighters are engaged in spray works, which is being conducted in a phase-wise manner.
