13-day Nalbari Raas festival begins

NALBARI, Nov 12 - The 13-day 86th annual Raas festival at Nalbari Sri Sri Harimandir was inaugurated by Minister of Commerce and Industries Chandra Mohon Patowary at around 5 pm today.

A colourful cultural procession was also taken out to mark the inaugural function where thousands of people took part.

The inaugural meeting was addressed by MP of Mangaldoi Lok Sabah Constituency Dilip Saikia, Dr Vice Chancellor of Rabindra Nath Thakur University Amalendu Chakravarty, among others. The meeting was presided over by Ashok Sarma, president of Nalbari Raas celebration committee.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury lit the ceremonial lamp.

The artisans led by Makhan Paul made more than 600 idols and displayed in the temporary stalls in the Raas festival. The idols have been installed depicting different incidents from the eventful life of Lord Krishna.
