SILCHAR, July 23 - The Barak Valley Kaibarta Samaj Unnayan Parishad has called a 12-hour Barak bandh on Friday demanding extension of the last date of submission of NRC forms beyond July 31. Moreover, it has alleged anomalies in the submission process.
A bike rally was taken out from Ashram Road today to garner support for the bandh. Sujit Das Choudhury, general secretary of the Parishad said that once the NRC comes to effect, many people who have been residing in the State for a long time but have no documents to produce will be victimized.
He recalled the promise made by the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and other political leaders of yesteryearsto give protection to anyone coming to Assam from Bangladesh due to religious persecution.
