AGARTALA, Aug 12 - During the past 24 hours, 110 more cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Tripura. Altogether 88 cases were detected in health care facilities and points of entry into the State after tests on 2,065 samples. The remaining 22 positive cases were found after RT-PCR tests on 1,049 samples.

West district reported the highest number of the new positive cases (39), followed by Gomati (32) and North (22).

There has been no COVID-19 death during the past 24 hours, which is a relief. Although positive cases continue to swell, the intensity of the disease has been controlled to a large extent, claimed a senior Health Department official today.

Over two lakh people have already undergone COVID-19 tests. The positive cases stand at 6,482. However, 4,839 patients have already recovered from the infection. As of now, Tripura has 1,617 active cases.

With the situation improving gradually, the number of containment zones has been reduced from 181 to 176 where stringent lockdown measures are still in force.

In West district, infection is likely to maintain an increasing trend due to unlocking measures. District Magistrate of West, Dr Sandeep Mahatme, has appealed to the people to follow the health guidelines strictly.

The intensity of the COVID-19 infection will depend on how people behave. If they follow the requisite guidelines, wear masks and maintain social distancing, the positive cases will come down, Dr Mahatme said.
