Guwahati, May 2: The Assam Assembly polls counting is currently underway for 126 seats in the State. The BJP-led NDA is competing against the Grand Alliance spearheaded by the Congress in Assam.

    Silchar, May 02: In Katigorah, BJP candidate Goutam Roy has lost to INC candidate Khalil Uddin Majumder by a little over 7000 votes as the final figures are yet to be drawn.

    BJP's Ranjeet Kumar Dass wins Patacharkuchi seat

    Guwahati, May 02: In 42-Patacharkuchi LAC, Ranjeet Kumar Dass won by a huge margin of 62,560 votes. Dass got 80,856 votes while Congress candidate Santanu Sarma got 18,296 votes and former AGP MLA Pabindra Deka got 9821 votes.

    Silchar, May 02: Meanwhile in Sonai constituency, Deputy Speaker cum sitting legislator from BJP Aminul Haque Laskar got 29,718 votes while AIUDF candidate Karim Uddin Barbhuiya got 38,499 votes. Interacting with the media, Karim Uddin Barbhuiya thanked his party Chief Badaruddin Ajmal and also expressed his gratitude to the people of Sonai constituency. He said, ”opposition has a major role in democracy and as a legislator he would play a constructive role in drawing the attention of the government.”

    In Udharbond constituency, with 60,627 votes, sitting MLA Mihir Kanti Shome has edged past the INC candidate and former minister who got 57,917 votes.

    AIUDF wins Bhabanipur seat

    Patacharkuchi, May 02: In Bhabanipur constituency, AIUDF candidate Phanidhar Talukdar defeated AGP candidate by a margin of 3668 votes. Talukdar got 55,915 votes while Deka got 52,247 votes.

    As of 8:00 PM, the Bharatiya Janata Party has won 11 seats and is leading in 48 seats while the Indian National Congress won 5 seats and is leading in 28 seats. The AIUDF has established leads in 14 seats and Asom Gana Parishad has won 4 seats and is also leading in 12 seats. NDA alliance UPPL has managed to win one seat and is maintaining a lead in 6 seats while UPA alliance BPF is maintaining a lead in 2 seats.

    Silchar, May 02: In what could be called some interesting turn of events, the Bharatiya Janata Party has been able to make the lotus bloom in Lakhipur constituency of Cachar district which was thus far a Congress stronghold. Kaushik Rai has triumphed the seat as he bagged 53,721 votes leaving the Indian National Congress candidate Mukesh Pandey at 41,668 votes. On the other hand, till this report was filed, BJP’s Silchar LAC candidate got 60,579 votes while INC candidate Tamal Kanti Banik was at 27, 997 which hinted that Dipayan’s victory was just a matter of time. Much talked about independent candidate Dilip Kumar Paul got 6725 votes till the filing of this report
