IMPHAL, Feb 28 - The indefinite ban imposed by Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) on national and international projects in Zeliangrong areas has paralysed the ongoing construction of railway works in Jiribam-Tupul sector in Tamenglong district, sources said. The ban is on since February 20.

The volunteers of ZYF which has been demanding shifting of all government offices in Tamenglong to the Mini Secretariat in Tamenglong district headquarters, have reportedly seized keys and documents of some vehicles of the construction companies, a press release said.

On Monday last, Manipur Chief Minister had informed the Assembly that the Jiribam-Imphal railway project would be completed by March next year.

The ZYF had already announced to intensify the agitation. Stating that the Front will continue their agitation against the State Government until its demands are met, the ZYF in a press statement has threatened to launch an indefinite blockade on National Highway 37.

The District Secretariat Complex constructed at a cost of Rs 36.26 crore, was inaugurated by the then Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in the presence of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.

The State Governments popular slogan of equal development has miserably failed in Tamenglong as the government has abandoned the District Secretariat Complex, release claimed.
