Zoiinath cautions voters against BJP

By Ajit Patowary

GUWAHATI, April 9 - Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) senior spokesman Dr Zoiinath Sarma today warned that voting for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its alliance partners will prove suicidal for the indigenous peoples of Assam and the NE region.

His comments came in the wake of the declaration made by the saffron party in its Lok Sabha election manifesto yesterday that if voted to power again at the Centre, it would get the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 passed and implemented.

Dr Sarma, while talking to this newspaper also said that by giving up its regionalist ideology to align with the saffron party, the architect of the CAB, for the narrow personal interests of a section of its top leaders, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has now become politically and ideologically bankrupt. The greed of a section of its top leaders for power and pelf has reached such a pass now that they can be blackmailed by the BJP leaders to give up regionalism, said Dr Sarma.

The AGPs assertion that it would stick to its earlier stand on the CAB carries no weight as far as its relation with the saffron party and revocation of the CAB are concerned, he said.

He also maintained that the BJP has in fact resorted to treason by framing the CAB to invite the Hindu Bangladeshi nationals to India. If the reported statement of the Vishva Hindu Parishads (VHP) Bangladesh president Gobinda Chandra Pramanik on the issue is to be believed, the BJP-led government in India has provoked around 2.5 crore Hindus of Bangladesh to leave their country for India. This is going to weaken the Hindus in Bangladesh, alleged Pramanik.

In the final analysis, the Hindus will be weakened world over if the saffron party succeeds in getting the CAB enacted and implemented, asserted Dr Sarma.
