IMPHAL, Feb 10 � The killing of an elderly person after being kidnapped by suspected Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has been condemned by various social organizations based in the Tamenglong area.
A local businessman identified as Gondaimei Angam (61), a resident of Marangching Part-V of Tamenglong district, was shot death by suspected cadres of the ZUF on Sunday after whisking him away from his residence.
A joint statement by the Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF), Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland), Zeliangrong Students� Union, Manipur, Zeliangrong Union (ZU), Nungba Zone, and VACC Longmai area, while deploring the act, said even if any misdeed or wrong might have been committed by the deceased, killing of any person without giving any room for correction or mending his ways, is inhuman and a gross violation of a person�s liberty to life.
It also denounced the levelling of allegations against the person after killing him, stating that heaping of allegations on a dead person is not the culture of Nagas and Zeliangrongs in particular. As such, the allegations levelled against the deceased are not acceptable, the statement said. People have also been closely observing the activities of armed outfits, the statement pointed out.
