Zeliang seeks COVID-19 testing centre in Nagaland

By Correspondent

DIMAPUR, March 26 - Opposition leader TR Zeliang said the Nagaland Government needs to take more stringent measures to save lives of citizens from novel coronavirus. Lauding the efforts of the Government in curbing the spread of COVID-19, Zeliang, in a statement issued today, said the State Government must ask the Centre to set up a COVID-19 testing centre in the State immediately.

There is no testing centre for COVID-19 in Nagaland and samples are being dispatched to a testing centre in Guwahati, Zeliang said.

He pointed out that people from the North East working and studying in metropolitan cities of the country are being subjected to racial attacks due to their ethnicity and race in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stating that the number of such racial attacks is reportedly increasing at an alarming rate, he urged Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to take up the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the earliest to ensure that the Naga people living in these cities are not subjected to such attacks.

He also demanded that the State Government immediately issue notifications directing the authorities of Nagaland Houses located across the country to accommodate and take care of the Naga people who are stranded and in distress due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
