Zeliang flags off Friendship Motor Rally

DIMAPUR, Nov 22 - Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang flagged off the Friendship Motor Rally at Khouciezhie (Local Ground) in Kohima on Tuesday. The Rally, which started from India Gate, New Delhi, will conclude at Bangkok on December 2.

About 80 participants from India, Myanmar and Thailand in 20 Indian made vehicles including a team from Nagaland are taking part in the rally.

With an objective to improve connectivity by road in the South East Asian region and to sensitise the stakeholders of India, Myanmar and Thailand Motor Vehicle Agreement regarding potential benefits of such a regulatory regime, the rally caravan will cover a distance of 5,722 km along the IMT Trilateral Highway. Ceremonial flag off will also be held in other cities and State capitals enroute at Imphal, Began and Yangoon in Myanmar and Bangkok in Thailand.

The rally hopes to further cement cultural and economic ties among the three nations and highlight the potential benefits of connectivity and integration in the region and in keeping with India�s focus on its close neighbourhood.

On November 21, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources & Sports Khriehu Liezietsu along with department officials accorded a warm welcome to the participants of the motor rally when they arrived in Nagaland.
