Zeliang accused of lobbying with BJP to come back to power

By Newmai News

DIMAPUR, Oct 5 - The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) of Nagaland has accused former Chief Minister TR Zeliang of carrying out campaigns in New Delhi in a bid to form an alliance with the BJP and return to power. The NDPP alleged that Zeliang met central BJP leaders and lobbied for an alliance between his party, the Naga Peoples Front (NPF), and the BJP in order to come back as the Chief Minister.

Currently, the NDPP, BJP and others are running the Government in Nagaland under an alliance called the Peoples Democratic Alliance (PDA).

According to the NDPP, Zeliang told the BJP leaders in New Delhi that Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsus term as the NPF president was going to end soon, and that a new leader would be elected. Thereafter, the NPF will align with the BJP, the NDPP quoted Zeliang as stating to the BJP leaders.

According to the NDPP, the BJP leaders told Zeliang that the leadership of Mr Neiphiu Rio has the mandate of the people and the support of the NDA leadership and there was no question of any change of stand whatsoever.

Meanwhile, the NPF has strongly reacted to the NDPPs allegations and said, The NDPP has started inventing pseudo-theories yet again and the hysterical statement of the NDPP is nothing more than the whining of a party whose downfall is imminent.

According to the NPF, the NDPP, in its attempt to garner support, has advocated all concocted tales imaginable. This very act of sending political messages with ill-conceived ideas undermines the intelligence of the present-day Naga generation and hoping that the Naga populace would buy such trumped-up story is downright pathetic, stated the NPF.
