Zangam emerge champion

SIVASAGAR, April 12 � Wasikur Rahman�s brilliant 77 and Rwitik Das patient 28 helped Zangam Club to beat Griffon Club by huge a margin of 85 runs, in the Konram Gogoi-Bimola Dutta Memorial Inter Club Cricket League Championship played here at PP stadium, under the aegis of Sivasagar Sports Association. Altogether nine teams took part in the championship where in the first semifinal, Zangam beat Phoenix club by 28 runs and in the second semifinal Griffon Club got the better of Rainbow Club, Amguri by 5 runs.

In the final, Zangam batted first and scored 215/8 in the stipulated 35 overs. Abdul Motlib of Griffon took 4/35. In reply, Griffon Club were all out for 130 in 25.4 overs.

Bishal Baruah (37) and Ankur Das (19 ) were the top scorer for them. Girsh Phukan and Biku Borgohain of Zangam returned with figures of 3/31 and 2/40 respectively.

Wasikur Rahman was adjudged man of the match in final, Bishal Baruah of Griffon and Shyam Gurung of Phoenix were adjudged Best Batsman and Best Bowler of the league respectively.

In the valedictory function, the winning trophy along with Rs 5000 and runner-up trophy along with Rs 3000 were distributed by donor Debabrat Gogoi and journalist Manoj Borthakur. Other prizes were distributed by Ashraful Haque, Tapan Dutta and MM Ahmed.
