Youths urged to follow ideals of Rupkonwar

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, Jan 18 - To commemorate the death anniversary of the cultural icon of the State Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Silpi Divas was observed at Lakhimpur district on Sunday by various organisations.

The day was observed in North Lakhimpur by Uttar Lakhimpur Sahitya Sabha in which the songs by Rupkonwar were sung along with recitation of some of his poems. The North Lakhimpur unit of AASU also observed the day by taking out a Sur Bahini across the main streets of the town. Silpi Divas was also observed along with the celebration of Bhogali-2016 at Tyagkshetra, North Lakhimpur where many prominent citizens were felicitated.

News of celebration of Silpi Divas was also reported from Narayanpur, Bihpuria, Laluk, Nowboicha, Bogeenadi, Ghilamora and Dhakuwakhona of the district.

Doomdooma: Along with the rest of the State Silpi Divas was also observed at Doomdooma.

Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha (DSSS) observed the day in collaboration with Doomdooma Town Committee (DDTC) near the statue of Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala at the railway gate of Doomdooma town where DDTC chairman Dulu Arandhara garlanded the statue of Rupkonwar. DSSS president Arjun Baruah lit the earthen lamp.

Addressing the gathering as chief guest the headmaster of Rupai High School and former secretary of Tinsukia district Sahitya Sabha Prakash Dutta dwelt on various aspects of Rupkonwar�s life and work. The programme was anchored by DSSS secretary Nityananda Das.

Rupai Siding branch of Asam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) in collaboration with Doomdooma regional committee of Jatiya Mahila Parishad celebrated the day at DSSS premises where the president of Tinsukia District Journalists Association Anuj Kalita garlanded the portrait of Rupkonwar to start the programme.

In his address Anuj Kalita urged the young generations to follow the ideals of Rupkonwar in order to build a strong and united Assamese nation. The secretary of Doomdooma Press Club Manoj Dutta also addressed the inaugural programme.

Later, in the day various cultural competitions were held among the students. In the evening a special programme was held where forty artistes of Doomdooma area were felicitated by AJYCP. The programme was chaired by AJYCP Tinsukia district committee president Surajit Moran. Senior journalist Dhiren Deka and DSSS president Arjun Baruah along with several leaders of AJYCP participated in the felicitation programme as guests.
