GOALPARA, Nov 12 - Is it possible to ride a bicycle with full control with your hands tied, or without holding onto the handlebar and just sitting on it?
Tanveer Firdous Hussain, an 18-year-old from Goalpara, has set a new State record by riding a bicycle for a distance of 34.92 km in one hour and 55 minutes with his both hands tied. Tanveer has entered the Assam Books of Records for his unique feat.
He started his ride from Al Salam Hospital at Karbala in Goalpara at 5 am and finished at Solace Hospital in Goalpara town at 6.55 am. His ride took him to the other side of the Naranarayan Setu to Chalantapara in Bongaigaon district, then back via Solmari before finishing in Goalpara town.
Talking to this correspondent, Tanveer, a student of SR Academy School, Goalpara, thanked his parents, Laila Muskura Begum and Sabibar Hussain, for being a source of inspiration for him to continue his cycling activities.
He said that he has submitted the proof and has applied for the national record by riding a distance of 129 km in six hours and 10 minutes without holding onto the handlebar, on November 9, 2020 in the presence of independent witnesses.
He said he started riding from the other side of the Naranarayan Setu in Bongaigaon district, continued to Barpeta district, and then took a U-turn at Kaljhara before finishing at Jeevan Jyoti Dhaba in Barpeta district.
Tanveer said he usually practises at night after 10 pm and covers a distance of 11 km daily without holding onto the handlebar. He said he has been riding bicycles in this fashion from the age of seven years in safe settings, before doing so elsewhere or in the presence of traffic. He now wants to enter the Guinness World Records.
