Youth held for murdering, looting Golaghat woman

JORHAT, June 28 - A Golaghat Police team on Wednesday with the assistance of police personnel of Cinnamara police outpost arrested a youth from Rajabari area here on charges of murdering a woman and looting valuables in Golaghat on June 25.

A police source stated that the youth identified as Rahul Sahu was nabbed from a rented house by the police team and taken to Golaghat.

The source said that an ATM card, two mobile handsets belonging to the victim named Pranati Goswami of Cinnatoli No. 2 Hensuachuk village of Golaghat district was reportedly recovered from Sahu�s possession during a search conducted at his house.

The source said that Sahu along with his accomplice Bitupan Saikia, also a resident of Rajabari, together allegedly killed Goswami after barging into her residence during daytime on June 25 when she was alone in the house.

The duo reportedly strangulated Goswami and then looted her valuables, the source informed.

Cinnamara police outpost in-charge Rubul Ali told this newspaper that necessary support was extended to the Golaghat Police team in apprehending Sahu. Ali added that police were on the lookout for Bitupan.
